worked on a volunteer project at Stanfield Baptist Church - part 1

One of the couples in our rolling rally with our Christian C-BOF group found out a rural church was in need of some help. As part of our rolling rally we wanted to do a service project and so helping out at this church sounded like a good fit.
We left Organ Pipe Cactus National Park as a group and drove less than 2 hours to Stanfield Arizona. Once there, we carefully parked our 13 RV's in the churches small parking lot.

The church was requesting help remodeling 2 bathrooms and re-organize a storage room. We saw that there were many other things we could do and since we had 13 couples, we volunteered to do some other projects too.

We started each morning with devotions and then Maurice would tell us the projects for the day.

Some of the ladies realized that the church kitchen was very dirty and disorganized and went on to clean and organize that. They found mouse dropping in most drawers and old spoiled or out of date food in the cupboards that needed to be thrown out. Sue assisted in the cleaning and preparing meals in the kitchen.

The ladies made breakfast and lunch everyday for us.

I was put in charge of the woman's bathroom remodeling though I assisted in both men and woman's bathrooms as did several others on our team. First we had to remove all the fixtures and then strip the old tile off the floor. This took several hours to get all the tile off the floor. We ended up using a blow torch to help soften the adhesive.

One of the urinals was completely corroded so I had to run into nearby Casa Grande and find a replacement. I never shopped for a urinal before and the folks at Home Depot were quite surprised I was trying to find one. I finally found a good replacement at a plumbers supply store and then had to drive back the 10 miles back to Stanfield.

We also had to paint the men's bathroom room. The woman on the left (below) on my team is in her 80's and she could out work most of us men.

Below, some of us taking a late refreshment afternoon break.

It was a hard 4 days and a lot of us had many aches and pains and we admit we slept very good at night.
Some of the extra projects we took on were cleaning out the back yard and patio, laying new carpet and setting up a new study for the pastor.

A couple of the cool evenings, we sat by our rv's around a propane fire place and shared testimonies.
