toured the Oregon coast at Winchester Bay

We arrived at the Oregon coast here at Winchester Bay.

We camped at Windy Cove B. It was raining when we pulled in and set up camp and we parked north of this heavily wooded hill. We did not realize that the sun never shines on this part of the camp ground and we like to enjoy the sun most of the time. We had to take our chairs in the afternoon and move to a sunny spot to get our Vitamin D exposure time in the sun.

We took an excursion to the nearby Umpqua Lighthouse State Park and saw the light house and we went thru the museum. I learned a lot about the large Fresnel Lens and the 6 order ranking of these big lens used in lighthouses. These lenses are able to project a beam of light that is brighter than the source of the light seen directly by capturing more of the light coming off at angles. I always wondered how the lighthouse lighting worked.

We also made a trip over to the Oregon Dunes National Recreational area where visitors rent or bring their ATV's and they drive all over the dunes.

We had heard there was a nice fish & chips restaurant with in walking distance of our campground so we went over to have a nice lunch. The portions were pretty large so were able to split a meal that we enjoyed..

One afternoon we brought our chairs over to this dock to sit in the sun and watch the fishermen. There was also a lot of people putting in crab pots and catching crabs and cooking them in large pots right at our camp ground. I guess eating crab right after they have been caught does not get any better than that. We did not get the chance to try any though.

  1. your pics looks so fresh and clear out there. Do you see lots of stars at night?
It's on my bucket list to go explore out west someday.
