Surprised to learn that Oregonians actually pronounce the state as "orr-ə-gən" or Oregin. So several people have corrected me until I got the hang on saying it correctly.
Also surprised to find that you cannot pump your own gas here when you go to fill up your vehicle. I understand just Oregon and New Jersey have this law. Since my truck takes diesel fuel I am allowed to pump my own fuel but I have enjoyed letting the attendants do their job. After all, I have not had anyone pump fuel for me for over 35 years so I let them do it and besides I do not want to take anyone's job away from them.
Another surprise is that letters must cost big money here cause a lot of signs are seem to missing words that you would expect to see on the signs. For example we have seen signs that just say ROCKS whereas I used to seeing signs on our travels that say "Falling Rocks". Another sign we see often is "Congestion" which means to expect traffic. I always wonder if I should blow my nose when I see this sign.
Here is an example of the Speed limit signs.
Note, it probably cost too much money to have the word limit on the signs so they leave it off. I realize we all know what they mean but the signs are different than what we are used too.
