Big Bend National Park - SW Texas

We explored Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas. We stayed in nearby Study Butte for four days and used it as our home base and we took daily day trips in to explore this huge park. This park has river, desert, and mountain regions which contains a large diversity of plants and animals.

Below are some yucca plants in full bloom. These plants do not necessarily bloom each year so to see them blooming was a treat.

Sue is checking out the inside of an old stone house. The owner raised more than 7 children in this house.

We hiked into this canyon along the Rio Grande river. On the other side of the river is Mexico. Those cliff faces above us on the left are in Mexico.

More pictures of the canyon. Mexico is on the left.

Below are blue bell flowers which are the Texas state flower. We saw lots of these as they line most of the roads through out the park and they are in full bloom this time of year.

These flowers are so beautiful.

As I mentioned earlier, we did a lot of hiking each day. Here we are once again hiking along the Rio Grande looking for a hot spring.

We finally found the hot spring and there was already some people in it. Mexico can be seen on the other side of the river.

After several day trips and a lot of hiking we still did not see everything this park has to offer. We will have to come back sometime.

  1. love the canyons and bluebells. I'm getting cabin fever from the SE, been here too long, I need to see some other parts of the country.
